viTHE STUDY FOR EFFECTS OF BIOCIDES ON THE CORROSIONCAUSED BY SULPHATE REDUCING BACTERIA (SRB)(M.Sc. Thesis)Suna AĞRIDAĞIGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTCorrosion is a deterioration of metals reactions because of in theirenviroment. Microbiological corrosion is the acceleration ofdeterioration on metals because of biofilm. In this study, corrosive effects of sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) onthe petroleum pipe steels were investigated. The Tafel extrapolationmethod and lineer polarisation method were used in the determinationof corrosive effects. In this studies two types of enviroment were used;artificial sea water enviroment (YDS), five volume YDS enviromentincluding one volume SRB injection water. In YDS enviroment, the effects of SRB injection water, glutaraldehyde(GA), sulphide ions as a pollutant, sulphide ions and glutaraldehydewere investigated. It is observed that corrossion rate approximatelytrebled by sulphur addition, and it is found that in sulphur pollutedenvironment the usage of GA as the inhibitor has decreased thecorrossion rate.viiIn five volume YDS enviroment included one volume SRB, the effects ofsulphide ions as a pollutant, the effects of biocides, the effects ofsulphide ions and bicides were investigated. It is observed thatcorrossion rate approximately one and a half fold by the help of sulphuraddition and the usage of biocides have decreased the corrossion ratein this enviroment and sulphur polluted environment.Science Code : 912.1.023Key Words : Microbial corrosion, MIC, SRB,Sulphate reducing bacteria, BiocidePage Number : 76Adviser : Prof. Dr. Mübeccel ERGUN
