Abstract (EN)

As an ordinary soldier reaching Egypt as a part of the army formed to withstand Napoleon, who occupied the country in 1802, Mehmed Ali of Kavala gained reputation instantly by taking advantage of the authority vacuum in the region. Sending away the local forcesand the governors appointed by the capital with uprisings fired by Albanian Bashibazouks he commanded, Mehmed Ali of Kavala was awarded the the governor role in 1805 by Sultan Selim III. Mehmed Ali Pasha started a military reform program influenced by the performance of the western forces during the French occupation he witnessed as governor. Formed after this reform program, the army named Asakir-i Cihadiye widened Mehmed Ali Pasha's area of influence with its shortly after arrived success. Asakir-i Cihadiye was assigned to the Morea rebellion by Sultan Mahmud II after these acievements were heard. As a result of Vak'a-i Hayriyye, Janissarys were repealed during the Morea rebellion by Mahmud II, and the army of Asakir-i Mansure-i Muhammediye was declared. This new army, which was formed, followed an closely similar path to Asakir-i Cihadiye, particulary in its first years in terms of its name, training and discipline. Therefore, discussions about whether the army of Mansure, with its modernisation efforts, was influenced by Mehmed Ali Pasha appeared startibg from its foundation in 1826. The Ottoman- Egyptian wars between 1831-1833 and 1839-1841 fought after the political and military tension between Mehmed Ali Pasha and Sultan Mahmud II in the consequent period initiated by these two armies. While the similarities and differences between the purpose of creation of the two armies most vividly appeared on the battlefield, two battles of Konya and Nizip saw the most severe confrontations during the Ottoman-Egyptian wars.
