Law structure of urban transformation in term of sulukule urban transformation project

The biggest common feature of cities, especially metropolitans such as Istanbul is that they are always in a constant change. The changing trend in all areas of the city brings in the question of how these changes should be. Today we realize that these discussions become concrete especially under the topic `urban transformation?. Although it is not a new concept, urban transformation is a challenge that has been discussed for only a couple of years in Turkey. Urban transformation concept has become more disputable with a project known as Sulukule `The Neslişah and Hatice Sultan Districts Urban Transformation Project? lead by Fatih Municipality in Istanbul. Together with the municipality, the authority that leads the projects, the people in the region that are directly impacted and also non-governmental organizations requested to participate in this process. Thus, the urban transformation phenomenon attracted our attention too just like everyone; because this issue has some parts that need to be investigated.This study on urban transformation and law structure of its practice in Sulukule consists of three main sections:In the first section, the focal point is the definition and concept of urban transformation.The second section is on the legal steps of urban transformation.And in the third section, the question on how to combine public benefit and the right of ownership with urban transformation.With this study, the aim is to reveal to the reader the legal regulations about urban transformation, the objectives and reasons these legal regulations, and also whether public benefit and right of ownership concepts coincide with the urban transformation application in Sulukule.
