Abstract (EN)

In recent years, research on exercise-induced muscle damage increased rapidly, and many studies have been published on this subject. The purpose of the present study is to examine the effects of supramaximal eccentric contractions on the damage of muscle and recovery between dominant and non-dominant arm. Ten male subjects without any musculoskeletal and metabolic disorders voluntariry participated and they were university students in the School of Physical Education and Sport at Abant İzzet Baysal University. The study was conducted by using cross validation reserach design. Venous blood samples were taken from the subjcets right after (1st minute) and at 6th minute, 24th, 48th, 72nd hours after muscle damaging exercise protocol as well as resting blood sample. Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test was used for statistical analysis to determine the differences between dominant and non-dominant arm. The significance level was set of p<.05 for all analyzes. Statistical analyzes showed statistically significant changes in serum Creatine Kinase (CK) activity for both dominant and non-dominant within time intervals of 48th and 72 hours (p< .05). However, there was no statistical significant difference in both dominant and non-dominant arm in terms of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) aktivities within time intervals (p> .05). As a result, the data revealed that while the recovery occurred in both arms, it was faster in dominant than non-dominant arm.
