Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the current state of adventure tourism within the framework of sustainable destination management in the districts of Daday, Azdavay, and Pınarbaşı in Kastamonu through a multi-stakeholder approach, and to develop applicable strategic recommendations based on the qualitative findings obtained. The research was structured using a qualitative research method and a case study design. The participants were selected through criterion sampling, one of the purposive sampling techniques; local residents, tourists, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, and private sector representatives constituted the main stakeholders consulted in this study. Data were collected through in-depth face-to-face interviews conducted using a semi-structured interview form, which was developed in line with the relevant literature and expert opinions. The data collected were analyzed using thematic analysis, and the findings regarding the adventure tourism potential and the existing management structure of the region were evaluated. The findings indicate that elements such as immersion in nature, adventure, and exploration predominate in tourist experiences; however, deficiencies in infrastructure, security problems, and the lack of professional guiding services negatively affect the experience. It was determined that the participation of local residents in tourism processes is highly limited, which both weakens local development and adversely affects the sense of ownership towards tourism. As a result of the research, it was revealed that there is a need for a sustainable governance approach based on multi-stakeholder cooperation that prioritizes the conservation of natural and cultural assets, the enhancement of the quality of tourist experiences, and the active participation of local communities in the process. In this context, a comprehensive assessment was presented that takes into account the socio-cultural, environmental, and managerial characteristics of the region and is aligned with sustainable development objectives.
