Examining private sector recreational activities within the sustainable activity management concept

The purpose of this study is to examine the sustainability conception of recreational activities applied in private sector. With the purpose of examining the sustainable facility management conception in recreational activities of private sector, in this study qualitative research method is used since it reflects the participants' interests, demands and ideas who are in high and medium level management positions in Telecommunication companies in İzmir. The participants of this study which is realized between May-June 2015, is composed of 23 managers from 4 different telecommunication compamny in İzmir. Time schedule and the place of the interviews were planned according to the participants. The sustainable facility management perception of the managers were handled with qualitative research method and examined within the planned behavioral theory. The study is derived from the phenomenon that after a long term desk work in private sector, sustainable facility management is necessary in terms physical, psychological and sociological needs for recreational activities of employers. Thus the research model of this study is Phenomenology. Obtained data were changed into prose in computer environment. Then, data were analysed through "Nvivo 11 Pro for Windows" programme. Also, themes of encoded data, matching with each other, were grouped by 2 professionalists. Codes, in which agreement and difference of opinion, are calculated according to Cohenkappa formula. Coherence among encoders are found r= 0.84 as result of reliability calculation. Thus, calculated values show that there is coherence among raters at good level. After the analysis of the data obtained from the personal information forms, demographic findings about the participants have been reached and presented in graphics. After the analysis of the data the views of the managers are given as the themes " applying the recreational activities at work" "benefits of participation to recreational activities at work " and "conception for sustainable facility management" have been presented. Up to the views of the managers for applyin recreational activities at work; among the activities "educational activities, trips" "picnic", "sportive activities", "art and culturalactivities", "meals", "recreative games", "entertainments" and "organizations in nature" have been reached as codes. Benefits of participation to recreational activities at work 4 themes have been reached. These themes are; "physiological benefits", "psychological benefits", "sociological benefits" and " institutional benefits" . As for the importance of the sustainable facility management; "institutional culture", " belonging to the institution" and "sustainable facility management" themes are presented. And thus; " productivity", " team work", "institutional values", "defining mission and vision", increase in success", and "sense of belonging " codes reached. In the end of this research based on the managers' views, the result is that in private sector recreational activities contributes positively on the sense of belonging, productivity and in addition; physiological, psychological and sociological situations of the employers. Besides managers have expectations for sustainability of the recreational activities at work. As a result of this study; to meet the physiological, psychological and sociological demands of managers and to maket he company facilities sustainable there is a need to establish a unit within the company like "work recreation department" is suggested. And it is also suggested to develop a management model for recreational activities special to private sector fields.
