Green economy factor in achieving sustainable development: The Azerbaijani model

In the study, the implementation of sustainable development and green economy policies in Azerbaijan was analyzed. The thesis examines the effect of the conceptual commitment between sustainable development and green economy in Azerbaijan on economic, social and environmental development. In addition, the thesis reviews each of the seventeen goals of sustainable development. The thesis also provides information on the establishment of UNEP, its historical development as well as its activities. As international organizations and other states do, Azerbaijan has been defining and implementing policies and programs on the issues of environment and sustainable development. After Azerbaijan has regained its independence after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it has adopted many rules and regulations toward protecting the environment and building a green economy. Moreover, it has been active in organizing events and conferences toward implementing many projects and programs. Yet there may be some additional things to do in not only completing these projects and programs but also building a full green economy in the country. This thesis aims to make a humble contribution to these objectives.
