Examination and proposal of a sustainable architecture design method of primary schools in half-humid Marmara climate

Sustainability is precautions and necessary conditions of smart solutions with respect topeople and environment in order to give future generations a chance to continue their lives.Inter disciplinary researches on general ?sustainability? concept and lower scientificexpansions of this concept are crucial for our time and for the future and they are gettingstronger support in the scientific arena. Contemporary sustainable architecture is definedwithin this context as being in harmony with environmental systems, using energy and scarcesources efficiently and wisely, to become a whole with technical intelligence and interdisciplinary researches.In this thesis sustainable architecture is examined on elementary school buildings. Sustainablearchitecture in its essence is rejecting type projects in favor for different project for differentareas that take climate, social and ecological situations in consideration in the lifecycle of thebuildings.In the thesis five main areas are determined for sustainable elementary school building designand control lists have been formed to act as a ?sustainable elementary school designguideline?. The five areas are: selection of building site, architectural design, conscious andefficient usage of energy, selection of sustainable material and waste control, waterpreservation.The first chapter of this thesis is explaining the purpose, scope and the method of the subject.In the second chapter the topic domain is presented, different related concepts are defined anddiscussed. The third chapter is defining general goals of sustainable elementary schoolbuildings and discussing them. In the fourth chapter design criterion for the five main areasare organized and the design and control guidelines are formed for elementary schoolbuildings in the half humid Marmara region.
