Abstract (EN)
The habits of people in terms of production and consumption underwent a significant change with the transition to industrial production. The rapid growth of industrial production without considering the consequences and the parallel consumption processes have rapidly consumed natural resources without giving them the chance to renew themselves sufficiently, and have also led to various environmental problems. This has led to the idea that we need to rethink the production and consumption processes that disrupt the balance of nature. One of the solutions that can be applied in the field of architecture to address this issue is the bioutilization approach, which aims to provide benefits to the structure by incorporating living systems into our architectural production systems and using production techniques that prioritize the health of nature's cycles alongside them. In this study, a research was conducted on biomaterial production by using living organisms in order to benefit the building in the production, use and recycling processes of the building. The research progressed through the study of living organisms and architecture, which are the two main pillars of the subject. After providing information about living systems, the methods of utilizing them in architecture were explained. With the importance of progressing the studies within certain strategies, bioutilization strategies have been classified and the bioutilization gains to be achieved as a result of the process have been defined. Based on this information, 21 case studies were examined in detail, and the possibilities of producing biomaterials by using living organisms in the structure were evaluated.
