From the point of sustainable consumption, a research on impulsive buying and materialist tendency relation with apparel purchase-disposal behaviour

In this research, student's individual characteristics as impulsive buying and materialist tendency and their relation with sustainable apparel consumption behaviour has been examined. Beside this purpose, it is also researched whether there is any difference between student's impulse buying tendency, materialistic tendency and sustainable apparel consumption behaviour according to demographics such as gender, maritual status, education, age and monthly personal income. Consumers play an important role in creating a sustainable environment. In this context, the difference in consumer's individual characteristics and behaviours with respect to demographics would contribute highly in creating incentives in this matter. Referring to those aims, findings of the research shows that as the tendency of viewing possessions as essential for satisfaction and well-being in life and placing possessions and their acquisition at the center of their lives increase, a decrease in environmentally responsible apparel purchase behaviour is seen. Also an increase in the student's tendency to judge their own and others' success by the number and quality of possessions accumulated leads to an increase in clothing discard behaviour. Examining the literature on impulsive buying and sustainable clothing consumption relation showed that it is a context that hasn't been researched yet. Still, the closest is the Joung's research entitled "Materialism and Clothing Post-Purchase Behaviors". Therefore, present research is expected to shed valuable insides for future research.
