Maintenance of social and cultural identity in sustainable tourism: The case of Gökçeada

Nowadays, the concepts of globalisation and sustainability are the important issues that are being argued. Especially the sustainability concept has been reflected in every field. There is the key element in different fields that has been arised a necessity of social life and the sustainability of agriculture, urbans, tourism, technology ect.Tourism, which is an important subsector in the process of development and regional improwement focuses on affirmative relation of development and environment because ofits relation on environment and national sources. Sustainable tourism includes social and cultural liability, economic productivity and ecological sensibility in its all long the line. The existence and sustainability of tourism industry can only become the naturel, social and cultural values of regional and local areas with maintainable responsibility which are the sources of the tourism.Emphasizing the relation between identity and culture have a great importance because of its feature that is a concept including conventions, tradition, and lifestyle of a society for the culture as an item of identity. Qualitative items and cultural level of a society have a function on determining and orientating identity of the environment that designed by the persons who formats the society. Especially, determining the dimensions of change for what reason, however, how, in which conditions, for whoever and by whoever have to be modified on a sustainable model for tourism areas.In this study, that has proposed to suggest a model, which oriented on maintaining social, cultural, natural and architectural values of Gökçeada with the concept of offering tourism in sustainability perspective. However developing touristic destinations in sustainability perspective and resolving social and cultural issues may be easier and more with more bloomed methods with this model suggestion.
