Perception of sustainable building applications by architects: The example of Alanya

This research was done to make clear the perception of architects on sustainable construction practices. This search is important because it is one of the pioneer studies in its fields and research region. The study was carried out on the architect of district Alanya, Antalya. Quantitative research method was used within the scoped of the research and data were collected by using the survey method. The survey was conducted on 124 architects in September 2018. When the results were examined, it was found that the perception of architects about sustainable building implementations consisted of "general use and characteristics of the building", "the water management", "waste management", "sewage and infrastructure management", "energy management", "recycling" factors. When the results about factors were examined, it was determined that the participants participated in the proportions of all factors. And also it was found that the opinions of the participants about waste management and recycling factors, were close to level of instability. Within the scope of the study, hypothesis tests were carried out to determine whether there were any differences in the perception of factors according to demographic and occupational groups. When the results were examined, it was found the participants perceived "the social sustainability" factor is according to that "education level" and "age groups", characteristics of the structure and waste management factors according to the "practice training" status and characteristics of the structure factor according to the architecture duration group. In light of these results, hypothesis tests were partially accepted. Another remarkable result of the study is that architects have not applied certificate programmes related to the sustained structures before. It is determined that only one of the architects mentioned above did not apply the certificate programmes that were applied by the others. Therefore, a hypothesis test was not carried out.
