The comparative analysis of integration process for Syrian Arab refugees and Syrian Turkmen refugees: İstanbul case

In Syria, opposition demonstration sand protests against the current regime in April 2011 were replaced by civil war in a short time. After the çivil war in Syria, Turkey has adopted an open door policy by taking a historical responsibility and has agreed nearly 4 million Syrians who escape the war atmosphere in their country. Syrian refugees coming to Turkey at the beginning of Syria Crisis, were regarded as short term "guests" by Turkish politicians. As time passed, it is seen that they, the immigrants, became permanent as a result of the widening climate of war in Syria and the deepening of the crisis; and it was not possible for them to return to their countries as a mass. Thus, the debates about the integration of Syrian refugees was began to add to agenda. The integration process is a very critical issue that closely concerns both the host society and the immigrant society. In this study, the integration processes of Syrian Arabs and Syrian Turkmens living in Istanbul, which hosts the largest Syrian refugee population, are analyzed with the assistance in a questionnaire prepared in the light of the main integration indicators of Castles.
