Abstract (EN)

Migration is one of the most important phenomenon happened throughout the human history. This importance continues to maintain its continuity at the present. People migrate in order to have a better life standard. But, besides the movement towards a better life, they split from their home, which they are connected with a bond of belonging. But this movement, fundamentally, highly effects the receiving society aside with immigrant. Nowadays, there are voluntary and forced migration happening with many reasons. One of these is the forced migration from Syria, which is affected by the Arab Spring in 2011 and dragged into civil war, to other countries. Being neighbour countries with Syria, Turkey has experienced this immigration very closely and today, has a 9 years experience of immigration in each area seperately. With this project, named Social Perception Of Syrian Immigrants (Example Of Central Districts Of Şanliurfa Province), conducted using qualitative research method in Haliliye, Eyyübiye and Karaköprü. The aim of this study is to examine the perception of the people of Şanlıurfa about Syrian immigrants. Which factors are at the forefront of this perception have been examined. Economic conditions, religious affiliation, social and cultural differences have a great importance in people's perception of immigrants. Especially during the first arrivals in 2011, religious brotherhood and hospitality in Turkish culture played a very effective role in welcoming immigrants. However, in the following periods, the daily life encounters brought along with the prolongation of the process caused many association such as security, economy, marriage and neighborhood to be effective in this perception. In this case, the experiences of people has a great importance in perception. Key words: Sociology of Religion, Migration, Harmony, Identity.
