Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to reveal how the social perception and positioning of the refugees are created via media by examining the news in the local press including the representation of Syrian refugees. Today, Media, both with its written and visual aspect, functions as a powerful instrument creating many perceptions by means of the news it reaches the masses. The ideological role of the Mass Media becomes evident especially through the expressions during the process of producing news and the notion about these subjects being represented is conveyed through various mass medium by playing a significant role on the receiver's perception and evaluation of subjects. In this sense, Mass Media has an important effect in the perception of refugees as such in the reflection and presentation of all subjects. In order to make sense of how the refugees are represented in the Media, a literature review was made and "Critical Discourse Analysis" technique was used in "method and sampling" part of the study. By means of this technique, the positioning of the refugees in media was endeavored to be analyzed and interpreted comprehensively. In this manner, it was aimed to analyze how Syrian refugees are represented in Media through the news reported in Gaziantep local press.
