Abstract (EN)

Medium carbon steel and stainless steels having different characteristics are difficult and problematic to join by conventional welding methods, which are especially widely used in aerospace, defense and automotive industries can be joined by a new and automated friction welding process (FW) with developing material technology. In this study, AISI 1040 and AISI 304L austenitic stainless steels which have different properties were joined by friction welding process. In the welded joint; considering the literature the welding conditions rotational speed, friction pressure and friction time were chosen and, the joints having different mechanical and microstructural properties were obtained. Apparently, the welding process parameters played an important role on the welding quality. It is possible to increase the weld quality of friction welded joints of medium carbon steel and low carbon austenitic stainless steels having different characteristics by using appropriate combination of the rotational speed, friction pressure and friction time.In the first chapter of this study, the subject was introduced. In the second chapter, objectives of the studies with giving examples from current literature were discussed. In the third chapter, the solid state welding processes used were mentioned, stainless steels and austenitic stainless steels were introduced and the information about corrosion was presented extensively. In the fourth chapter, the method of experimental study and the preparation phases of the experiments were presented. In the fifth chapter, the experimental results were given and discussed in details. In the sixth and final chapter, the general results and recommendations were given.
