Abstract (EN)
Retention of conus crowns decreases with the wear of matching surfaces of the inner and outer crowns due to repeated insertion and removal of the denture. When loss of retention is the only one deficiency, instead of renewal of the denture rehabilitation of retention will prolong the denture?s service.Studies about the effects of different materials and long-term use on the retention of conus crowns exist in the literature. Since the studies about rehabilitation of retention is fairly limited, the effects of friction varnishes and electroforming on the retention of conus crowns were compared in the study in which the methods for increasing retention of conus crowns were discussed.30 pair of samples which consist substructures assimilating inner crowns cemented on the prepared teeth and outer crowns fit to substructures were produced. FGP friction varnish, SD friction varnish and electroforming method were applied to the samples, respectively. After the application of three methods, retention values of the samples were measured. The results of the experiment were analysed with ANOVA and Tukey tests. FGP friction varnish group showed the maximum retention values. Electroforming group showed higher retention values than SD friction varnish group.Key words: conus crown, retention, friction varnish, electroforming
