Chronicler Sururi's dates, written in verse (p.151-250)

Nations have merits, which keep them alive. One of these merits is absolutely language. Lives, thoughts and dreams of nations acquire a shape with language. It is possible to know nations with their language works. Literature, which evokes admiration and gives pleasure to people is also a common value of the nations. Although having no aim of transferring values, literature presents us a rich material about values of nations. In this material, poetry has the greatest part. Poetry and abjad calculation (abjad calculation: is study of the different techniques of chronograms composed to designate the date of the construction of buildings and to mark occasions such as victories, conquests, births and deaths), with its harmony and artistic merit, has been intensively used on epigraphs in the mosques, on grave stones, and in every part of life, from conquests to shopping , and these poems with abjad calculations also presents us important material to understand our past. To reach more implicit results on abjad , I have studied some of the poems , between pages 151-250 of Divan-ı Süruri. This book is in Kütahya Municipality Mustafa Yeşil Library. Its registration number is 1236.The author Süruri was a history book writer too. During my studies I have seen that Süruri had not only witnessed to history but also had a good knowledge of poetry, prosody, and literary arts. Furthermore he was very good at designating dates. Unlike the other poets he was able to designate different dates on a particular subject. My study has been done in 3 sections. In section 1; Surusi's life, his works, his literary personality, in section 2 ; dates, he designated and their kinds and in section 3 transcription of the studied parts has been given, and in the footnotes information was given about the related persons.
