Abstract (EN)
In our study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of physiological root resorption on the success of pulpotomy treatment applied with calcium silicate-based material to deciduous second molars with deep dentin caries. The study included 93 patients aged 4-11 years (41 girls, 52 boys) with deep dentin caries in the lower deciduous second molar. Patients were divided into two groups based on the physiological root resorption status of the deciduous molar to be treated. The control group (Group 1 - Stage S) included teeth where physiological root resorption had not yet begun (n=44), while the study group (Group 2 - Stage R) included primary second molars with one-third level of physiological root resorption (n=49). The patients, who were called for follow-up appointments after the treatment, were followed up clinically at the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th months and radiographically at the 6th and 12th months.Yates correction and Fisher's Exact tests were used to compare categorical variables according to groups in statistical analysis, and p<0.05 was considered significant. When the study results at the end of 12 months were evaluated, the control group had a clinical success rate of 97.7 %, and a success rate of 95.4 % radiologically; The study group had a success rate of 95.9% clinically and 89.8% radiologically. There was no statistically significant difference between the success rates of the groups (p>0.05). According to the clinical and radiographic results of our study, it was found that MTA pulpotomy applied with calcium silicate-based material showed similar success rates in primary molars where physiological root resorption had not yet begun and in molars with physiological root resorption at one-third level of the root. According to the results of this study, physiological root resorption was not found to have an impact on the success of pulpotomy. However, further extensive and long-term clinical and histological studies are needed to investigate the impact of physiological root resorption that starts in primary teeth on the success of the applied pulpotomy treatment.
