Abstract (EN)

Throughout every stage of the operation, the uninterrupted functioning of vital organs (Heart, lungs) is only possible through the maintenance of fluid balance in the body. In this case, this causes a rapid and uncomplicated progression of the postoperative recovery period. If the volume and composition of fluids, which make up most of the body weight, are not properly maintained within physiological limits through appropriate fluid supplementation, the patient becomes open to various adverse conditions. In this study, the aim is to evaluate the effect of fluid-electrolyte therapy on the success of surgical procedures in dogs requiring surgical intervention, brought to the Department of Surgery at Fırat University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In the study, a total of 14 dogs scheduled for surgery were randomly assigned to two equal groups. The dogs in the first group (experimental group) were administered Lactated Ringer's solution following the determination of the most appropriate amount based on each patient's needs. The dogs in the second group (control group) were administered physiological saline based only on body weight. In both groups, the patients' vital and cardiovascular parameters were monitored before and during surgery, and blood samples were collected preoperatively and postoperatively for analysis. The findings obtained revealed that vital parameters remained more stable and postoperative recovery was faster in the group treated with Lactated Ringer's solution. In terms of hemogram results, this group displayed a more balanced profile. As a result, it was concluded that Lactated Ringer's solution, when administered considering the individual condition of the patient, is more effective than physiological saline in maintaining physiological balance and supporting the recovery process.
