Abstract (EN)

Swage casting is a patented, new casting technique which combines advantages of squeeze, centrifugal and semi-solid casting methods. Components with one rotating axis such as bomb body can be produced on a swage casting machine from molten metal in one-step operation. Centrifugal action rises the molten metal on the surfaces of the lower mould before the squeezing action is applied. The shearing action on semi-solid metal breaks up the dendrites as in rheocasting enabling casting of thinner walled tubular shapes. Besides, smoooth surfaces and excellent details; sound and fine grained microstructure could be obtained with swage casting. The purposes of this work are to describe swage casting methods, its features and establish process parameters applicable to Al-Si-Cu alloy. Experimental works are carried out on cylinder-like shape using A380 Al-Si-Cu alloy and comparisons are made between squeeze cast, centrifugal cast and swage cast parts. Final microstructures of parts produced by these methods are analyzed. Keywords: Swage Casting, Semi-Solid Casting, Rheo Casting, Aluminum-Silicon Alloys,
