Investigation of drillability properties of laminated hybrid composite materials

Abstract (EN)

Composite materials continue to be frequently used in the aircraft industry and defense industry today, especially because they are light and durable. The diversity of composite materials also highlights their processability. In this study, the drillability properties of layered E glass fiber reinforced layered polymer composite, aramid fiber reinforced layered polymer composite, E glass/aramid fiber reinforced layered hybrid polymer composite materials were examined. The materials were produced by the vacuum impregnation method. Materials of certain sizes were subjected to tensile tests, and detabakaion factors were found for each material in CNC Milling using different cutters, according to the full factorial test design. Experimental design and statistical analysis were performed using the Taguchi method. As a result of the analyses, in terms of input deformation factors, the number of revolutions was the most effective parameter in the aramid fiber-reinforced composite material, while the cutting tool parameter was the most effective in the glass fiber and hybrid fiber-reinforced ones. The effective parameters for the output deformation factor were the feed rate for the glass fiber reinforced one, the number of revolutions for the aramid fiber reinforced one and the cutting tool for the hybrid fiber reinforced one. It has been determined that the cutting tool is the most effective parameter in terms of thrust force in all three materials.
