Dynamic behaviours of base isolated buildings

Keywords: Earthquake, Structural control systems, seismic isolation, base insulation This current thesis is examining the seismic insulation techniques which are also reducing the destroy of the quake. Since the early of 1980?s, despite of largely use of this technique in the earthquake threatining lands, it is not possible to see the use of this new technique, in our land which have suffered from a earthquake events causing so many deaths. For the examination of the effects on the system, comparable dynamic analyses have been done. As a dynamic external force, Dinar earthquake october first in 1995, Erzincan quake in March 13th 1992 and Sakarya quake in 17th august 1999 has been considered. At the results of the analyses, dynamic behaviour of the anchor based and base insulated buildings are compared. This research consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 contains some acknowledgements about earthquake and seismic isolation systems. Chapter 2 contains the historical improvement of the isolation systems, the researches performed in Europe and Turkey and some knowledgments about the buildings in which has been used these isolation techniques. Chapter 3 includes the effects of the structural features on the building?s behaviour and the differences between the traditional and the new isolation techniques on the buildings. Chapter 4 includes seismic insulation system kinds and their features. As a last one, chapter 5 includes with the use of UBC 97 parameters, dimensions of the isolation have been determined. The specified isolator types have been applicated to the buildings through the use of Sap2000 package software and for the anchoraged and the isolated cases of the buildings, comparable analyses have been done.
