Proverbs and phrases in Tâcî-Zâde Ca'fer Çelebi's Divan

Proverbs and idioms are stereotyped words of advice that have survived from the past to the present, emerged as a result of long trials and experience, and sometimes have a figurative expression and a depth of meaning. These words, which are important linguistic structures in terms of the beauty of pronunciation, power of expression and richness of the concept, are the subject of study in many fields. This thesis, titled "Proverbs and Idioms in the Divan of Tâcî-zâde Ca'fer Çelebi", consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, "Introduction", information about proverbs and idioms is given, and the subject, purpose and scope of the research are mentioned. In the second chapter, "Method", the method of the research is explained. In the third chapter, "Findings", proverbs and idioms are defined and information is given about the life and works of Tâcî-zâde Ca'fer Çelebi. Then, the couplets containing proverbs, idioms and folk sayings in the divan were identified and intralingual translations of these couplets were included. In the last section titled "Discussion and Conclusion", all the information given was collected and evaluated. With this thesis, it has been tried to reveal how, in what sense and with what frequency Ca'fer Çelebi used proverbs, idioms and folk sayings in his Divan.
