Training, preparation and creation processes of actors in Tadashi Suzuki method

From the second half of the twentieth century, criticism that the theater lost its ritualistic character and its essence, has opened doors to new quests. In this direction, possibilities of reaching this essence again have been researched by some directors including Tadashi Suzuki, and the traditional dramatic genres of the East have been regarded as a source for questioning the realistic theater understanding that has become widespread through its education and practice, as well as for developing an alternative approach. In this study primarily, the types and conditions affecting the formation of the method called Tadashi Suzuki Method (TSM), which is a contemporary acting method developed by Japanese director Tadashi Suzuki, have been examined by using the traditional Japanese theater types. After identifying and explaining the characteristics of the types and conditions affecting the formation, the training, preparation and creation processes of the actors or actresses in TSM have been explored. Accordingly, the exercises that constitute the training process of the actors or actresses in TSM have been explained in detail and how the actors or actresses lead the preparation and creation processes of the method in terms of the aims and application forms of these exercises has been tried to be determined. Consequently, the possibilities offered to the actors or actresses by the training period in TSM which is discovered to be immanent to their preparation and creation processes have been evaluated.
