Investigation of communication skills and athlete commitment levels of team athletes (Example of Kocaeli province)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the Communication Skills and Sports Commitment levels of team athletes in Kocaeli province. The research group consisted of 239 people in total, 102 of whom are football, 69 basketball, 41 volleyball and 27 handball, located in Kocaeli. Within the scope of the research, the personal information form created by the researcher and the 'Communication Skills Scale' whose validity and reliability study was conducted by Korkut and Bugay (2014) and the 'Athlete Engagement Scale' developed by Kelecek et al. (2018) were used to determine the communication skills of the athletes. The skewness and kurtosis values were used to find out whether the variables showed a normal distribution. Due to the normal distribution of the variables, the t-test technique was used for the two-category variables and the ANOVA test was used for the variables with more than two categories. In order to find the significant differences in the ANOVA test, the tukey test was used considering the homogeneity of the variances. Pearson correlation test was used when examining the relationship between continuous variables. Significance level was accepted as p< 0.05. As a result of the findings, a statistically significant relationship was found between the level of athlete commitment scale of team athletes and their willingness to communicate. As the level of athlete commitment of team athletes participating in our research increases, their willingness to communicate also increases.
