Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between the goals and sportsmanship orientations of team athletes. In line with the research objective, the population of our study consists of individuals aged 16 and above who engage in team sports. The sample group of the study consists of a total of 420 licensed athletes, 202 of whom are female and 218 are male, competing in handball, football, volleyball, and basketball. The Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation Scale, developed by Vallerand et al. (1997) and adapted to Turkish by Balçıkanlı (2009), and the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Scale, developed by Duda and Nicholls (1992) and adapted to Turkish by Toros (2001), were used as data collection tools. Additionally, a Personal Information Form created by the researcher was used to measure demographic information such as age, gender, and sports discipline of the participating athletes. It was determined that the data obtained did not follow a normal distribution according to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (p<0.05). Therefore, nonparametric tests were used for the evaluation of the scales. The Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparing quantitative data with non-normally distributed scales, and the Kruskal-Wallis analysis was applied for comparisons among more than two independent groups. After the preparation of the personal information form used in the research, the Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation and Task and Ego Orientation in Sport scales were employed. As a result of the research, a statistically significant and positive relationship (r=0.356, p<0.05) was found between the Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation scale and the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport scale. When evaluated based on gender, it was determined that female athletes had a higher sportsmanship orientation compared to male athletes. In terms of sports disciplines, it was found that handball and basketball players had a higher sportsmanship orientation compared to football and volleyball players.
