Özet (EN)

In this study, secondary metabolites and biological activities of the plant Tanacetum zahlbruckneri (Nãb.) Grierson were investigated, which had been collected from Van in 2000. Then, it was dried in shadow. The dried plant was extracted, first with hexane, then with ethylacetate, and finally with methanol. In this thesis, ethylacetate extract of the plant has been studied. Secondary metabolites separation process has been carried out by applying thin layer, preparative thin layer and column cromatography and molecular exclusion methods (Sephadex LH-20). Three substances have been obtained from the ethylacetate extract; a sesquiterpene, a triterpene and the compound B which was isolated from nature for first time. The chemical structures of those compounds have been elucidated by using UV, IR, 1D, and 2D NMR techniques. In this study, cytotoxic activity of hexane, ethylacetate and methanol extracts were first investigated by brine shrimp scannig method. Since cytotoxic activity has mostly been observed for the ethylacetate extract, the ethylacetate extract of Tanacetum zahlbruckneri was subjected for the phytochemical analysis and some biological activities of the EA extract of the plant have been studied. Keywords: Tanacetum zahlbruckneri (Nãb.) Grierson, sesqiterpene, triterpene, biological activity, brine shrimp
