The causes of domestic violence against women in Tanzania

Violence against women and girls endures to be a global epidemic problem that causes of health problems, disabilities, deaths or tortures that affects them physically, psychologically, socially, economically and politically. It is one of the most pervasive types of the human rights violations, denying women and girl's equality, security, dignity, self-worth and their rights to enjoy fundamental freedoms in their life time. Intimate partner violence is the behavior that is learned through observation and reinforcement in both the family and society. It is not caused by genetics or illness. Intimate partner violence allows the perpetrator to gain control of the victim through fear and intimidation. Gaining the victim's compliance, even temporarily, reinforces the perpetrator's use of these tactics of control. The aim of this study is to examine the factor that causes intimate partner violence among couples in Tanzania. This study has used the secondary sources of information includes internet resources, books, reports, articles and other various existing literatures. These sources had provided a broad perspective of intimate partner violence against Women. Also primary sources were included such as questionnaires which were used for an interview that was conducted to the women in the Mwanza region in Tanzania.
