The Tanzimat Period (1839-1876) is a period in the Ottoman Empire, where the understanding of the classical state continued on the one hand, and on the other hand, some innovations that occurred in the process of modernization were found to be used. change and transformation activity has begun. In this period, it is possible to see these change and transformation activities in Antakya, which is a district of Aleppo State. In Antakya, the first transformation took place in the administrative field. Instead of the local administrators, the head of state and district governors were appointed respectively. The accident was managed by the decentralization assembly, a new form of organization until the establishment of the administrative assembly. XIX. since the middle of the century, both in the field of social security and preventive health practices, the quarantine activities developed against the epidemic chest diseases and epidemics were also implemented in the Antakya accident. In the process of centralization that took place under the administration of foundations within the framework of the social state understanding, Antakya Evkaf Directorate was detached with the "destruction of the year" dated August 8, 1849. As a requirement of the period, the center's efforts to develop agriculture and industry were also effective in Antakya. Within the framework of the "Improvement-I Industry Commission", importance was attached to the private enterprise, and the first attempt to establish a factory in Antakya took place since 1868. Taxes are collected in two installments a year, depending on the economic power of everyone. In the city, where domestic and foreign trade is intense, the collection of taxes according to the income of everyone has stimulated the trade, which has increased the tax revenues given to the state under various names. The real estate allocation realized within this new taxation scheme was completed between 1864-1865. In this study, which was prepared as a doctoral dissertation, it was aimed to determine the reflections of the Tanzimat period practices on Antakya district in terms of administrative and socio-economic aspects. Basic resources of the study; Şeriyye registers, correspondence between the center and the provinces, state and province yearbooks, chronicles and research and study works.
