Abstract (EN)

Our study topic involves the process of modernisation between the announcement of administrative reforms (Tanzimat) and admisnistration of contitutional monarchy (Meşrutiyet) which importantly infuenced the structure of Ottoman Empire between the years 1839 and 1908. We handled this modernisation process's reflections and projections from the point of Turgutlu. The influences that the geographical location and developments of the term done to Turgutlu were shown mostly by the changes of demographical and economical structure. The unexpectedly increase of the population in the town, the preferance of growing cotton and grape instead of grain, the increase on the number of small business enterprises and establisments of the factories come across to this term and the reasons to all these are tried to be explained in detail. In this process, Turgutlu has become a complete town from a village, the administrative structure were formed according to the term's procedure and the population of the non-Muslim people increased not only from the point of proportion but also from the point of the social and economical life and the arrival of the railroad to the city in 1866, the effects were evaluated to Turgutlu. In brief, in this study, the social, economical, administrative and demographical structure of Turgutlu during the period starting from administrative reforms (Tanzimat) until to the second constitutional monarchy (Meşrutiyet) (1839-1908) has been handled. The population of the town, the religous structure, professional elements, educational and cultural structure, the economical situation of agriculture, stock raising, trade and industry, the administrative organization, sections and the management terms have also been tried to be explained.
