The derivational affix making noun from noun +lIk/+lUk in historic and contemporary Turkish dialects

In this study we shall present an effort has been made to examine the affix +lIk/+lUk used as one of the most productive derivational affixes making noun from noun both since the beginning of the Turkish language in Historic Turkish dialects and contemporary Turkish dialects.The objective in this thesis is to determine the branching of function and meaning, to give their examples in Historic Turkish dialects and contemporary Turkish dialects, and to perform a diachronic and simultaneous study. In addition, one of the other objectives is to perceive the problems of the affix and then draw conclusions from these.In our study first of all, the dictionaries pertaining to the historical periods, texts reflecting the language properties of its period, and indexes have been scanned and the words, in which the affix is used, have been recorded. Later on, the same technique has also been used for the contemporary Turkish dialects. The recorded words have been classified according to their functions and the most proper ones among them have been chosen and transferred to the study.Finally, depending on the examples in the thesis an effort has been made to determine the functions and the meaning branching of the affix and it has been thought that the affix has the quality of an in flexional affix.Key Words:1.Derivational2.+lIk/+lUk3.Meaning4.Function5.Productive
