Examination of the structural behavior of the historical Algerian Ali Pasha Mosque and Seyyid Bilal Tomb

The protection of historical and cultural heritage structures and their healthy transfer to the future is our responsibility that cannot be ignored. Such structures are important witnesses that contain traces of past civilizations and our deep-rooted culture. It is of great importance to preserve these works, which are generally constructed with a masonry system, in their current state and to make them safe against various loads. Although these structures, which have been exposed to many external factors over time, have been damaged in places, a significant part of them has survived to the present day thanks to the construction techniques of the period. Analyzing the current status of these structures, determining their damages, selecting the appropriate repair and reinforcement method, and performing this intervention in a timely manner is a very critical process. This thesis covers many topics, from the types of materials used in historical structures to the load-bearing system elements of masonry structures; from the loads to which these elements are exposed to their behavior under loads; and from structural damages that may occur to the causes of these damages and appropriate repair techniques. In the application section, the structural behavior of a selected masonry structure was examined; the obtained results were evaluated according to the relevant current regulations and guides and interpreted in terms of structural safety.
