Evaluation of walkability in historical city center"case study: Bursa Cumhuriyet Caddesi"

Population growth in urban areas and the growth of construction led to multicentricity in the city in line with the needs. This polycentricity has caused the loss of identity and the outdated urban centers. This negative change in the historical city centers has started to be seen as a problem at national and international level. In order to prevent this, many researches and studies have been carried out in order to increase the viability in the cities and to ensure the viability in the city center. The viability and livability of the city centers, being able to integrate the pedestrian with the city; this integration passes through the experience of the pedestrian itself. The pedestrian's ability to walk in urban space constitutes the most fundamental component of integration. All national and international academic studies and projects implemented by local administrations and stakeholders have used walkability as a building block in order to ensure livability in cities and pedestrianization projects have been realized in line with certain parameters in order to achieve this. The parameters that are taken as basis in pedestrianization applications are investigated with many international street control tools and it is tried to determine how much the parameters are applied in the projects in order to ensure walkability. Within the scope of this study, the pedestrianization project in 2010 in Bursa Cumhuriyet Street; It has been tried to control the extent to which the walkability parameters obtained by the literature analyzes have been met with the help of questionnaires which were created by means of the audit tool and applied to 250 people.
