Historic urban space-tourism and residential use

Due to pressure of tourism in Istanbul Historical Peninsula district, houses have been influenced and have been in process to turn into accomodation buildings. In the content of this thesis, change of use of residential districts in sample area for Sultanahmet and Cankurtaran neigbourhoods examined by 2005,2012 cadastral plans and current situation (2012).In this context, the first part of the thesis put forward the problem, purpose, importance, scope and method of the study are determined.In the second chapter, the literature on the effects of the tourism phenomenon in city centers and houses analysis study is described in the Historical Peninsula.In the third chapter, 24 Island structures and 505 buildings in Sultanahmet and Cankurtaran neigbourhoods are described in the case study. In this section, work area boundaries, the spatial formation and existing building stock (function, state of the building and floor units) findings are described. The function of the data converted into graphics.In the fourth chapter, change of use in residential use are identified by 2005,2012 cadastral plans and 2012area study.As a result, even though for the last seven years period housing and accommodation are considered in Sultanahmet-Cankurtaran area cadastral plansto protect houses, the current situation experienced the opposite.Type of tourism to be developed, the principle of the indispensability of houses approach should be adopted.
