Abstract (EN)

The Ottoman State was able to continue its centuries long dominance over three continents and its existance in different geographies because of its effective use of its institutions. One of these fundamental institutions was timar system. In this study, operating and functioning of the timar system within the scope of Ordu region between the years of 1455 and 1839; the change and transformation that timar system underwent in the context of Ottoman and World conjuncture were discussed. In this study we have focused on Timarli Sipahis (timariot), who were effective in Timar mechanism and who we define as ?minor actors?. In this manner it was considered that it would be possible to determine the complex and multilayered structure of Timar system. Timarli Sipahis (timariot), beginning from Tahrirler period and continuing on Ruznamçeler and Yoklamalar periods, and transitions between these periods were especially emphasized. Granting of the timar and its succession particularly became one of the fundamental subject matters. In this respect, timar was tried to be examined within a system and ?system analysis approach? was adopted. Our sources for analyzation of the Timar system, which played a highly important role since the foundation of the Ottoman State, are İcmal Tahrir Registers, Tımar and Zeamet Ruznamçe Registers and Cebe-Yoklama Registers.
