Forming urban design criteria based on oral history information in historical sites: Kemeralti Anafartalar Street (İzmir)

Success of urban design interventions regarding historical sites depends on accessing and interrogating ?Residential Information? that directs analysis processes of design and design parameters, which is the most importance source in the truest and safest manner, and commenting this historical information truly.In the process starting from collecting, commenting and explaining regarding city and residential site to accessing up to ?today?, developing some alternative history writing methods out of documents and data mostly with tendentious, adherent and political content of ?official? expression has picked up speed since the beginning of 20th Century. Those research methods are searching for obtaining ?micro information? regarding city in research of city history.Within the scope of this study, it has been used different ?micro information? in addition to domestic history sources (such as demographic data, achieve data and statistical data) that are the base in the research of city history up to now. The memory product arising as a result of memories and experiences of individuals having joint identification, being property and identification relations by means of ?Oral History? approach in Anafartalar Street has been transferred to the design as data. It has been evaluated the residences referred by social memory (classic historical research) and the residences referred by individual memory (oral historical expression) in a joint framework and it has been taken into consideration the priorities in intervening the residences.No matter how important the ?past life? is to understand today, producing today?s information is as important as in ?past life?. In order to establish ?tomorrow life? truly, safely, fairly and healthily it has been emphasized to obtain the information of ?past? in the truest way.Consequently, it is necessary that subjective/micro information should play a more important role in establishing design parameters in urban design interventions to be realized in historical sites by using ?Oral History? method.
