Malikis and Ash'aris and the dogmatic relationship among them

This study aimed to investigate the extent of dogmatic relationship between the most common doctrine in the Islamic jurisprudence (Maliki doctrine) and among the Kalam (word) doctrines (Al-Ash'ari doctrine) through introducing views of the most influential scholars in both doctrines, covering different dogmatic issues. To achieving the objectives of the study, the author adopted the descriptive comparative method. This study started with an introduction in which the author highlighted definitions of the research terms ( The Creed, The Science of Speech, The Interpretation and The Doctrine), as well as the historical sequence of the two doctrines, beginning with the biography of both imam Malik and imam Al-Ash'ari. The author divided the study to four chapters. The first chapter discussed the divinity which is the names, attributes and vision of Allah, and the belief in destiny and fate. In the second chapter, the Prophecies was clarified. While the third chapter demonstrated the Unseen such as Punishment of the Grave, Exile (Al-Hashr), the Balance, the Straight Path, the Intercession (Shafaa'ah), the Heaven and the Fire. In addition, it was referred to the scholars' views of both doctrines in the above-mentioned. Finally, in the last chapter, the author presented different issues such as the Faith, the issue of Imamate, the attitude of both Maliki and Ashari scholars towards innovation (bid'ah) and followers of bid'ah (the People of Bidah), and their attitude towards Sufism. The main results of this research were as follows: the Malikis who are Non-Ash'aris supports Ash'aris either through the confirmed literatures to their statements or through fatwas which support the efforts of Ash'ari scholars; Al-Ash'ari approves the statements of Maliki and imams of the Sunnis which is proving what Allah proves to himself and denies what he denies, documenting his attitude in the statement; there was not a solid relationship between the two doctrines in the chapter of divinity, especially in terms of attributes matter, because Ash'aris are much more likely to be interpreters than Malikis, as well as they have different opinions about concept of the vision of Allah almighty. Unlike Malikis, they believes that this vision of Allah does not entail form, place or direction; however, the imamate issue and the attitude vii towards innovation and warning against its followers are the most important dogmatic matters in which both sides' statements are consistent with each other. There is also an agreement on encouraging the asceticism and rejecting the mystical Sufism. In addition, the return of senior Ash'ari scholars to moderation contributes in reducing the distances between two doctrines. In the light of these results, the researcher presented a number of key recommendations: inviting the academic institutions to conduct scientific seminars and conferences concerning the relationship between the doctrines of Islamic jurisprudence and the kalam doctrines, alongside with detailed historical presentations of each doctrine. The research also recommend the scholars in mosques to encourage children to memorize the Hasith which concerning dogmatic issues alongside with Guran.
