Method tradition in history and Johannes Heinrich Mordtmann's Ilm-i Usul-i Tarih titled work

In this study, it is aimed to present a map of history science with the definition of history, the classification of history and the aim of the history. The studies of history writing and the understanding of history are still new in our country which makes our study more popular. In addition to political history, the history of culture and thought have became an important research area. In our thesis, the meaning of the term history from past to day, the change in intellectual and cultural environment of the term is an important issue. In our literature most of the historiography studies are translations. Since the are not shaped in our own thought, the field of the historiography and historicâl methodology is still untouch. The basicpoint of ourstudy is historicâl methodology so we want to put forward new ideas about the issue. During the reorganization period of Darülfünûn'i Osmani, experts of the Orient and Turcology were invited from Germany and Hungary. One of the experts that came to Turkey was Prof. Johannes Heinrich. He was appointed as a professor at the Faculty of Letters on October, 27 1915 and he has managed the classof Usûl-i Tarih and Tarih-i Tatbikat. The notes of Usûl-i Tarih class has published by Hamid Sami, the student of the Faculty of Letters at the end of the academic year 1915-16. Transcription of the İlm-i Usul-i Tarih is presented in the second chapter of the study.
