Abstract (EN)

Industrial development is a necessary struggle to fight against poverty and to increase living standards. After 1950, Izmir entered a period of rapid urbanization and the city population increased. The increase in industrialization and urbanization in the world brings about many social and environmental problems such as soil pollution and ecological deterioration. Geophysical methods such as magnetic susceptibility can be used to determine horizontal and vertical boundaries of the pollution. Geochemistry has emerged as a new discipline of science related to geology and chemistry. Today, geochemical methods are used in many studies together with geophysical research methods. Due to its intensive industrial activities, the Aliağa industrial zone has been chosen as the study area. The aim of this study is to determine the heavy metal pollution in agricultural and urban soils by using geochemical and geophysical methods. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were carried out both horizontally and vertically, the results have proved that the method is suitable for both in situ and laboratory observations. Horizontal measurements were performed using MS2E high resolution surface scanning sensor, while vertical measurements were performed using both the MS2C sensor used for core samples and MS2E sensor. As a result of the surface measurements on the İzmir-Çanakkale Motorway, the parts close to the road have 11 times more values than the other parts; in the Aliağa industrial region, the eastern part of the slope is about 11 times higher than the western part of the study area. In particular, the studies conducted in the Aliağa industrial zone indicate that the pollution here continues to a depth of about 60 cm from the surface. Besides, all of these data were supported by the chemical analysis of 33 parameters that was made by the ACME laboratory.
