Examining fire safety measures in agricultural buildings in the context of national and international legislation

Today's growing population and the resulting increased demand for food have made agricultural structures more complex and risky in terms of both production capacity and technical infrastructure. Fires occurring in these structures not only lead to loss of life and property, but also threaten agricultural sustainability and food security. Fire safety stands out as an often overlooked area in agricultural structures, yet one that can have serious consequences. In Turkey, regulations regarding fire safety in agricultural structures are limited and fragmented, and national legislation does not provide a comprehensive framework. In contrast, developed countries adopt a more systematic approach through technical guides, standards, and legal regulations. This study examines fire safety measures in agricultural structures at the design, construction, and operation stages, and also examines these measures in comparison with both existing legislation in Turkey and international practices. The aim is to evaluate preventive strategies to reduce fire losses in agricultural structures within the context of legislation and to develop recommendations for Turkey.
