From agriculture to art agronomic wood printing

The patterning process, made by applying paint to wooden moulds and applying pressure on the fabric with painted woodblocks is defined as "Woodcut". The art of Woodcut is the oldest patterning technique known, which has always attracted attention in the historical period, with the completely natural materials used and the application technique specific to itself. Today, the common usage of technology and materials has revealed the necessity of change and renewal of designs, and has paved the way for artists to produce works by making use of different disciplines in their designs. One of those disciplines is Agronomy (Agricultural Science). Although Agronomy and art are thought to be different disciplines, there is an interdisciplinary relationship from the textile materials forming the raw material of the handcraft works to printing blocks, from the natural vegetable dye used for encolouring to herbal motifs. In this study, woodcut art, application technique, fields of application and resources, literature review, and examination of the other works of art; woodcut design, and application of the carved woodblocks to clothing and accessories were made, within the framework of a specific concept. In the study, it is aimed to choose fifteen agricultural products grown in Tokat city, which takes an important place in the history of Woodcut art and witnessed every stage of this art in the historical period, and around as a concept, and to interpret in this sense. This study is aimed to contribute to the traditional handicraft artists by providing them with an different perspective, to create new products with innovative designs in accordance with the original, without deforming the texture of the products they produce, and to contribute to the promotion of the agricultural products growing in Tokat and Tokat region, which are included in the concept of the study. In the direction of these goals and objectives, the woodblocks were carved in traditional ways, and printing on textile products such as home textiles, yazma, shawl, women clothing, and accessories was applied, the generated implementations were presented with their visuals. A solo exhibition consisting of fifteen original woodblocks, and home textiles, clothing, and accessories ornamented by using these woodblocks was organized. With the online exhibition, there has been positive feedback to the designs which have been reached by a large mass. Keywords: Woodcut, woodprint, Yazmacılık, Agronomy, Traditional arts
