Özet (EN)

In this study; a radial compressor with low pressure and without inlet guide vane and diffuser was designed for an agricultural machine. A prototype compressor was constructed and simulated and experiments were conducted to compare with an existing back sprayer. After the design stage, models for prototype components were produced and molded with aluminum alloy. The construction process was completed with a turning table procedure. Comparative performance tests of blowing units of prototype compressor and the existing sprayer were accomplished. Air velocity, temperature and pressure at the volute were measured in relation with the performance tests. Air velocity at various horizontal and vertical distances from the air jet exit were also measured and energy consumption tests were done. This study showed that experimental results were in well agreement with the theoritical results of compressor design. The existing sprayer operated at fan speeds of 2980 rpm, 4722 rpmr and 5835 rpm with mechanical efficiencies of 21%, 25% and 20%, respectively, while the constructed compressor operated with 36%, 34% and 28%, efficiencies for the same fan speeds, respectively. Therefore it was shown that the costructed radial compressor was more efficient than the existing fan. In conclusion, It was suggested that the radial compressor could be used instead of radial fans in sprayers. Key words: Radial compressor, Radial fan, Pneumatic sprayer
