Analysis of agricultural product information through processing of images obtained by a mobile robot

Abstract (EN)

Mobile robots, a kind of robotic system, are now being used ever more in different areas of daily life. This study aims to identify the solutions for the problems that may arise during the use of the mobile robot system throughout the analysis of agricultural product information with image processing method and during the system installation stage. Wireless data transmission was used to send the image, ambient temperature and humidity data from the mobile robot to the user. Thus, the user was able to get certain information from the image data with the software developed using image processing algorithms. The designed mobile robot consists of two main structures - software and hardware. While the motion system and the sensor system make up the hardware, the control system makes up the software. The motion system fulfills the motion-related orders sent by the user on agricultural lands. The sensor system collects the ambient temperature and humidity data and transfers those to the control system. The robotic system includes the control system which ensures the coordinated operation of these two systems and their connection with the software. In the scientific studies about agricultural mechanization and informatics, it is common to use image processing methods instead of mobile robot designs. This study, on the other hand, uses both of these with software and hardware structures developed accordingly. With the robotic system; the ambient temperature and humidity data are sent to the user, hardware and image processing techniques are used to support the software with agricultural product reporting and employee monitoring system. In this way, the effectiveness of the use of robotic systems on agricultural areas has been improved. Face recognition and product information analysis studies in which image processing techniques were used has shown that the quality of the camera on the robot, the ambient lighting, shading, the physical structure of the products and the number of number of learning cycles for facial recognition were directly influential on the robotic system. Research findings showed that; the mechanical structure used in the motion system should be of industrial strength in order for the robotic system to be able to move freely on the land.
