Abstract (EN)
Contemporary approaches to quality in the construction sector and project management practices and especially within sub-processes have brought different quality management techniques as a result. In the context of quality researches in building processes, it has been concluded that the quality of the manufacturing and usage processes are influenced by the quality management in design process. Therefore within this thesis, quality management of design management within international hotel projects and its influence over the usage stage has been evaluated. The main reason of selecting this particular building type is that such projects contain interdisciplinary identity. From the project management aspect; having multidisciplinary roles carries greater importance in quality management and sustainability issues. Building quality which is comprehended in different ways by different user groups comprises greater importance in manufacturing costs and compels a project quality management cycle that is including efficient usage of the resources. In light of the above mentioned basis, the quality management of design process, which is an important component of building manufacturing process, has been examined within this thesis. For that purpose, quality concept and its contents have been summarized, quality concept in the building sector has been addressed, process features of the building industry and requirements which constitute preliminary input for quality have been discussed. In order to analyse the effects of the design quality on the utilization process and product quality, the process quality frames have been drawn first and the existing model has been examined within this frame and confirmed problems and solution proposals have been discussed. In addition to reviewing available literature, a survey study has been executed with the individuals who held various positions within the Holiday Inn Hotel Almaty project, consultations were held with the design process team to ascertain the process quality. A further survey was held by an independent organization with actual hotel guests, this has been used for the examination of the product quality.Hotel chain brand standards, compulsory local building codes, actual application design documentation, drawings adapted to the local building codes and other design documentation have also been used as supporting documentation. The established findings and literature review have been compared to each other and the results have been studied in this research.Common performance requirements and process specialities of such multi-component and complex building type, have been studied and design process quality has been examined along with the reflections in utilization stage over the specified model.According to the research study, international chain hotels consist of different organizations and process attributes, thus proving that process quality has a large scale impact over the final product as well as fulfilling performance requirements. Cultural and organizational factors have grater impacts that do not have that significant role in any other projects.
