The case of Istanbul Biennial and Istanbul Design Biennial in the context of evolving design into art and art into design

The thesis titled "The Case of Istanbul Biennial and Istanbul Design Biennial in the Context of Evolving Design into Art and Art into Design" for researching stratified relations between Art and Design focuses on why art and design are intertwined, mixed, or similar in terms of conceptual and stylistic aspects. In chapter one, transformation processes of art and design that affect each other; particularly the milestones and works that affect the historical relationship between art and design in the 20th century from different aspects are emphasized. These stages are explained with etymology, the industrial revolution, art and design movements, concepts, or views important for this field. In chapter two, in the world of art and design, where globalization's effects are felt, many different dynamics bring art to design and design to become artistic. Art and design context, relations between art and design, has become visible in the art market, in the management of art and design, in the criticism of the design, in beyond disciplinary projects, and in spaces that shape art and design. In chapter three, the works at the Istanbul Biennial and the Istanbul Design Biennial, platforms where the problem at the center of the thesis about the complexity between art and design can be observed, are compared and examined. As a result of the interviews with experienced people in art and design, the research was tried to be clarified, and answers were sought to the critical questions that emerged
