Bezm u Rezm in the Divan (Classical Ottoman poetry) of Taşlıcalı Yahya Bey

Divan poets reflected the traces of the society in which they grew up and their own living spaces in their poems. Taşlıcalı Yahyâ Bey, one of the sixteenth-century poets, also remained within the borders of the Divan poetry, and as one of these poets, subjected the influence of his profession to his poems. As a military poet, Taşlıcalı Yahyâ Bey is a poet who frequently used the elements of bezm and rezm in his poems. While it was evident that the use of rezm is a result of the poet's profession in military service, writing poems with his worldly narrator identity and his participation in Sufism enabled him to use the elements of bezm. In this study, firstly, the items of bezm and rezm were scanned in the Divan of Yahyâ Bey. In this scan, the elements of bezm and rezm were identified, tagged and classified. At the introductory part of the work titled Bezm u Rezm in Yahyâ Bey Dîvan, general information about the poet's life, art and works were given. The study was shaped around two main sections. In the first and second part of the study, the elements of bezm and rezm were identified and explained based on the poetry of the poet. In terms of the items of bezm, the poet took into account the Sufi meanings of bezm. This is the effect of the lifestyle that he preferred after leaving his military service in the last period of his life. In addition, it was observed that Yahyâ Bey, a military poet, frequently used the elements of rezm and talked about the wars he personally participated in in his poems. With this respect, it can be said that in Yahyâ Bey's poetry, bezm and rezm have a decisive aspect in his poems. As a result, it was determined that the profession of Yahyâ Bey, a military poet, and his life after his military profession had an effect on his Divan poetry.
