Investigation of attitude towards physical education course and social skills levels of secondary school students with and without transport

This study was carried out to examine the relationship between the social skills levels and physical education and sports attitudes of students who continue their education in the provincial centre and a district of Pain with and without transportation according to some demographic variables and the scores obtained from the scales. A total of 300 secondary school students, 146 girls and 154 boys between the ages of 11 and 14, were included in the study. In the study, "Personal Information Form", "Social Skills Scale", "Physical Education and Sports Attitude Scale" prepared by the author by taking expert opinion were used. The valid questionnaire forms completed by the students within the scope of the study were transferred to the SPSS 26 statistical package programme. After the normality assumption analysis of the data, skewness and kurtosis tests were performed. In the analysis of the data obtained, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage distribution); Independent Sample T Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe multiple comparison test were used to determine the differentiation between the participants' social skills levels and physical education and sports attitude levels, gender, class, school location, school type, sportive activity participation and sports facility use. The results obtained were evaluated according to p<.05 significance level. As a result, when we look at the results of the social skills scale, no significant difference was found according to the variables of participation in sportive activities and use of sports facilities, while a significant difference was found in the variables of gender, school type and school location. When we look at the results of the attitude scale, no significant difference was found according to the variables such as gender, school location, participation in sportive activities, sports facility; while the school type factor created a significant difference in favour of those who received education without transport. The relationship between the scores of the Social Skills Scale and the Physical Education and Sports Attitude Scale was analysed. As a result of this examination, a low level positive significant relationship was found between the social skills scale and the physical education and sports attitude scale (r=-,279; P<0.01). In other words, it is possible to say that as the level of physical education and sports attitude of the participants increases, the level of social skills increases. When we look at the reasons for this, it can be shown that physical education course is a course with high socialisation weight, students feel more free in this course, children reduce their stress by throwing their energy in this course, and since they are in constant communication with the same and different age groups in this course, it has a positive effect on the development of emotions such as empathy, respect, trust, friendship and cooperation in children.
