The importance of taking noise as a design criteria in holiday resorts - An example evaluation

It is known that noise is an important problem that negatively effects human health, quality of life and environment. In recent years there has been an increase in work on reducing the physical and psychological effects of increased noise pollution on human health. It is aimed to control environmental noise with laws and regulations. In the development of tourism; natural and historical beauties as well as the architectural qualities of accommodation facilities are important elements. In holiday villages where people are going to throw over the tiredness of an entire year, ensuring acoustic comfort and noise control is an important factor for customer satisfaction. While holiday villages can provide noise control with their façade and wall details in closed areas, it is necessary to inspect the open area noises in these facilities with large open spaces. Comfortable holiday villages will emerge with a holistic approach, where the issue of noise is handled as design element from the very beginning of architectural design. Within the scope of the thesis, a holiday village in Belek, Antalya, has been carried out to determine the situation affected by the noise in the open areas. Noise maps have been prepared according to the different time periods of the day in order to determine the effect of open space noise sources such as pool, restaurant, bar, animation areas, amphitheater, children park. After the present situation problems are determined, noise barriers are applied to the areas exposed to noise above the limit values, and its effectiveness investigated via noise maps. Comparative evaluations have exemplified how effective will be the noise barriers that implemented later in the holiday villages design.
