DETERMINING THE APPROPRIATE CONDITIONS FOR ANAEROBICDIGESTION OF CHICKEN MANURE(M.Sc. Thesis)Aydın KARATAŞGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJanuary 2006ABSTRACTIn this study, anaerobic digestion of chicken manure and gas production in abatch system were examined. For this purpose, 14 glass reactors with 250 mLvolume each were used. During anaerobic digestion, each reactor was connectedto graduated burette in order to collect the produced gas . Chicken manure asraw material and active sludge which was taken from anaerobic tanks asinoculate microorganism were added. In this study, in order to achieve thehighest anaerobic digestion and gas production rate, the effects of temperature(X1) and pH (X2) were examined. The experiments were designed according toBox-Wilson experimental design method. The results were evaluated, statisticaly by ?Design Expert? package program. As a result of the program %reduction of Chemical Oxygen Demand (Y1) and for gas production rate (Y2)model equations and R2 values were calculated.Y1 = 45,40 + 6,90*X1 + 3,06*X2 + 3,54*X1*X2 -5,77*X12-4,15*X22 R2 = 0.9040Y2 = 3,01 + 0,54*X1-0,14*X2-0,30*X1*X2 + 0,18*X12-0,38*X22 R2 = 0,9618The model used in this study predicts that, the highest chemical oxygen demandreduction is 49,32 % (at T = 36,6 0C and pH = 7,29) and the highest gasproduction rate is 4,15 mL/100mL hour (at T = 37,8 0C, pH = 6,96).Science Code : 903.1.066Key Words : Anaerobic digestion, gas production, chicken manure, statistical analysisPage Number : 91Adviser : Assoc.
